The Public Prosecution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an independent judicial authority that reports directly to the King. It is headed by His Excellency the Attorney General, who holds ministerial rank and serves as Chairman of the Public Prosecution Council. The Public Prosecution enjoys complete independence in the exercise of its powers.
The Public Prosecution is responsible for investigating crimes and determining the appropriate course of action in respect thereof, whether by initiating public criminal proceedings or ordering the closure of cases. It also undertakes public prosecution before the judicial authorities, seeks the appeal or cassation of judgments, supervises the enforcement of criminal sentences, and conducts oversight and inspection of prisons and detention centers.
The Public Prosecution is committed to upholding justice, safeguarding rights and freedoms, and enforcing the law in accordance with the highest professional standards of international practice, in a manner consistent with the Kingdom's public order.
